NFTE develops curriculum, trains teachers, and provides ongoing support for NFTE classes in schools, after-school programs and BizCamps™.
For those students outside of our generally targeted population, we offer the BizBuilders program, which is similar in content and structure to the standard NFTE program.
Since 1994, NFTE Greater Washington D.C. has reached more than 18,000 youth through its curriculum, a "mini-MBA" program which requires 70-100 hours of class time.

Our Teachers
NFTE sees supporting teachers as key to our program's success and growth.
- NFTE University - A weeklong training session in which teachers are certified to teach the NFTE curriculum.
- CET Meetings - Ongoing professional development is provided through monthly teacher meetings to build on best practices.
- Adopt A Class (AAC) - Piloted in 2002, AAC rewards successful teachers with financial and mentoring support from individual donors. These classes receive full financial resources for their class as well as the added benefit of local entrepreneurs mentoring students and bringing "real world" experience to the classroom.
Our Students
In addition to the NFTE curriculum, students participate in:
- The NYC Wholesale trip - Students enrolled in the NFTE program participate in a wholesale buying trip. Provided with $50 in seed capital, the students learn to "buy low-sell high".
- Regionwide Business Plan Competitions - Students completing a business plan compete in "in class" business plan competitions. Winners may compete against other local area schools for awards up to $1,500.
- Dare 2 Dream Youth Trade Showcase - Each year 30-40 students are selected to showcase their businesses at NFTE Greater Washington's annual gala. Student exhibits are set up throughout the reception in a flea market setting allowing donors to meet the young entrepreneurs and experience the end product of NFTE's training.
