8 Ways You Can Get Involved
Please fill out this volunteer registration form.
1. Guest Speaker – Inspire youth in the classroom!
The NFTE Speakers Bureau consists of top business and community leaders who enrich NFTE students’ classroom experience. Speakers have a very powerful impact on students, offering their specialized knowledge as well as life lessons.
- Discuss business related topics, lead case studies, speak about entrepreneurship, share your business successes and challenges with students, and entertain a ‘question and answer’ session.
Time commitment: Minimum 1 classroom speaking engagement @ 30-55 minutes.
2. Business Plan Mentor - Work one on one with students on their plans!
Business Plan Competitions are important events in a NFTE student’s experience. Business Plan Mentors are sources of information, cheerleaders, and presentation coaches.
- We match you with a NFTE student looking for guidance on his or her PowerPoint business plan.
- To prepare for this work, we send you a sample plan to review and conduct a mini-training over the phone of what to look for in a winning youth Business Plan. Youth that make it to the Semi Final Competitions can advance to both Regionwide and Nationwide Competitions.
- Note: A background release form is required now for all mentors. Mentors and students meet at the NFTE office.
Time commitment: 2.5-6 hours
3. Business Plan Competition Judge - Serve on a high level panel of judges!
As a judge, you observe and evaluate NFTE student business plan presentations. Competitions take place every January and May.
- Local business and community leaders are invited to serve on judges panels. You will review student business plan presentations, engage in Q & A with local youth entrepreneurs following each presentation, provide feedback for each student, and convene with the entire panel of judges to determine youth winners.
Time commitment: 4 hours
4. Adopt a Class - Finance and mentor an entire class of students!
Donate $10,000 to sponsor NFTE students and act as a role model, mentor, and coach to them and their teacher by providing a “reality-based” perspective. You will bring the textbook to life!
Time commitment: Minimum of 4 classroom visits during a school semester.
5. In-School Champion - Bring your real life business expertise to a local high school!
A business person, or team, who is very committed to supporting and encouraging the success of NFTE students and teachers monthly in an individual school. Youth business plan mentoring, support a new entrepreneurship teacher and more.
- The In-School Champion's goal is to have a minimum of 2 students submit Powerpoint business plans to our Business Plan Review & Select Committee in January or May.
Time commitment: Minimum 4 classroom visits per semester @ 60 minutes each.
6. Dare 2 Dream Gala Champion – Join the host committee for 2008!
Join top business leaders and help raise funds to invest in the next generation of entrepreneurs. The May 6th Gala is one of Washington’s biggest and most exciting network events that support youth entrepreneurship. Each Champion commits to selling at least two tables.
Time commitment:

- Attend an initial orientation meeting
- Distribute at least 6 fact packs a month (provided by the NFTE-GW office)
- Send the quarterly NFTE E-Newsletter to their network
- Host a cultivation/NFTE awareness event (brown bag lunches, coffee meetings, cocktail reception)
